Ear Coning Instructions

Instructions for safe, effective ear cone candling:

  1. NEVER CONE ALONE. ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE HELP YOU. NEVER CONE YOUR OWN EARS.
  2. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  3. NEVER BURN AN EAR CONE STRAIGHT UP
  4. GATHER ALL SUPPLIES AS LISTED:
    • One or more pairs of ear cones
    • Container 1/3 full of water
    • Foil pie pan or a foil covered plate (make a hole in the center)
    • Scissors
    • Matches or lighter
    • Bath or Hand towel
    • Bamboo skewers (included in the ear cone packet)
    • Cone in a well ventilated room without drafts or breezes
  5. WHEN ALL SUPPLIES ARE GATHERED READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU BEGIN.
  6. The cone with the label marked “LEFT” is for the left ear. The unlabeled cone is for the right ear.
  7. The person who is having the coning should lay as flat as possible. Lay the Bath or Hand towel around their Hair, back/shoulder area to protect from wax drips.
  8. Lay a few wet paper towels on the foil pie pan or foil covered plate with the hole in the center. Use the pie pan where the wet paper towels were placed under the ear cone to catch dripping wax and trimmings.how to do ear candling properly
  9. Mark the cone approximately 1/3 of the way up from the small end. Place the ear cone through the hole in The pie pan or foil covered paper plate.
  10. Have the person place the small end of the cone in their ear. It should feel snug and be held slightly up at a 30 – 40 degree angle. NEVER BURN AN EAR CONE STRAIGHT UP. (0 degrees is parallel to the floor and 90 degree is straight up) The anatomy of each person is different and candle angle may need to be adjusted to each persons comfort. Watch for smoke at the base of the cone. This indicates Cone is not well-seated. Gently pull downward on the ear lobe to achieve a more snug fit. You will hear a pleasant crackling and hissing of the flame when the cone is in the proper place in the ear.
  11. Now the helper should hold the cone with one hand and light the large end of the cone. Allow the cone to burn approximately 2-3 inches (you will see the burnt cone top start to lean)
  12. Remove the cone and using the scissors put out the flame by trimming the burnt part of the cone over the container that is 1/3 full of water.
  13. Using the bamboo skewer (contained in the ear cone packet) ream the cone out to clear debris.
  14. Place the small end of the cone back in the ear at a 30 – 40 degree angle so that it feels snug and repeat Steps 1-13 until the cone is burnt to the mark approximately 1/3 of the way up from the small end.
  15. Dip the end of the cone in the container of water to put the flame out, then wrap the remaining piece of cone into the wet paper towels for safety.
  16. Clean the outer ear with a soft cotton swab if need.
  17. Repeat steps 1-16 for the other ear. Rest for at least 10 minutes following a coning.
  18. Always cone both ears
  19. Wash scissors and the helpers hands with hot water and a disinfecting soap when finished with coning.
NOTE:  NEVER CONE YOUR OWN EARS. DUE TO THE BURNING FLAME FOR THE CONING PROCESS ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE HELP YOU.
